Here's a cool project for a hot summer day. Use these colorful, great scented soaps in the summer or even year round as a reminder of the lazy, hazy days of summer! Please read through all instructions before starting. If this is the first time you are making soap click here to learn the basics of soap making. This project will make the layered soap version, for the tie dye technique (pictured in top row) click here. Pouring the Flower and Straps We are going to make 2 flip flops. Melt 1 cube of white soap, this will melt very quickly so put only a few seconds at a time on the microwave. Add fragrance (we used 10 drops) and color (we used two drops of lilac). Slowly pour into just the flower and strap portion of the mold, try not to overpour. Spritz with alcohol to get rid of any air bubbles. Let this set for about 15 minutes. Keep in mind you can place the mold in the fridge to help speed up the cooling. Pouring Middle Layer If you placed your mold in the fridge, take it out now. Melt 1 1/2 cubes of white soap, again it may melt quickly so use very short 5-10 secod intervals in microwave. Add fragrance (we used 15 drops) and color (we used 2 drops of peach). Spritz your purple flower/straps that are in the mold with alcohol (this will help the layers adhere to each other). Slowly pour your peach color over your spritzed lilac flower/strap until the mold is about 2/3 full (leaving room for another purple layer. You may have extra peach left, you can discard or if you have enough start another flower/strap part.) Spritz this poured peach layer with alcohol to remove air bubbles. Let set for 15 minutes (less if you use the fridge) Pouring Last Layer If you placed your mold in the fridge, take it out now. Melt 1 1/2 cubes of white soap, again it may melt quickly so use very short 5-10 second intervals in microwave. Add fragrance (we used 15 drops) and color (we used 2 drops of lilac again). Spritz your peach layer that is in the mold with alcohol (this will help the layers adhere to each other). Slowly pour your last lilac color over your spritzed peach layer, filling up the mold. Make sure you fill it as close to the edge as you can so it demolds easier. Spritz this last layer with alcohol to remove air bubbles. Let set for 15 minutes (less if you use the fridge). Remove from mold and wrap in plastic wrap to help preserve the moisture. |
